About Jim Delamater
Jim Delamater has served as the leader of Northeast Bank, Northeast Bancorp (AMEX: NBN) and all related companies since 1981, overseeing 27 years of growth.
During his tenure, the Company has grown from one community bank with $18 million in assets, 10 employees and limited services to a publicly-traded corporation with assets close to $600 million, more than 235 employees and 25 retail business units delivering one-stop shopping for banking, insurance and investment services. The Company directly serves communities and clients throughout the southern half of Maine and now in seacoast New Hampshire. .
Jim takes an active role in civic and community organizations. He is a member and past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Maine Bankers Association. He’s been a member of the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments (AVCOG) for more than ten years and currently serves on its Loan Committee. Jim was recently appointed to the Governor’s Wood-to-Energy Task Force. Previously he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Maine Real Estate Development Association (MEREDA) and served as Chairman of the Board of EnterpriseME, which has since been dissolved, the result of his leadership to realign the organization to meet the needs of the community.
In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of Northeast Bancorp and its subsidiaries, Jim sits on two corporate boards: Syris Scientific, a medical technology company, and Oxford Networks, a leading telecommunications company. And, to balance out his personal involvement he continued to be a coach and the President of the Babe Ruth little league baseball program.
Put Yourself in the Customers' Shoes
Over the course of his career, Jim grew increasingly alarmed by his observation that many financial institutions sold products aimed more at increasing their own bottom lines than those of their clientele. He began writing his thoughts on these practices as a set of guidelines for his sons. As the project developed, he realized that others could take advantage of his observations -- and the result was The Great American Mismatch, a book that explains how financial service firms sometimes take advantage of their clients and how to ensure a successful relationship with financial advisors. The book also defines his philosophy of "needs-based" selling and building customer relationships which is the foundation of Northeast Bank's mission statement.
